Sonya + hubby in motorcycle accident [by Jason Paul]

General:: Sonya + hubby in motorcycle accident
For those who haven't heard, Sonya and her husband Mike were injured in a motorcycle accident yesterday. The story is below. From what co-workers tell me, the old woman pulled out in front of them. Mike is in critical condition and Sonya is banged up and out of work for a while.

----------------

MARQUETTE - A Negaunee man is in critical condition at Marquette General Hospital this morning from injuries suffered in a motorcycle crash in Skandia Township Sunday.

Michael Ryan, 43, and Sonya Ryan, 38, both of Negaunee, were injured when their motorcycle collided with a pickup on U.S. 41 South in Skandia at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday, according to troopers from the Negaunee post of the Michigan State Police.

Michael Ryan is a cameraman for WLUC TV6 in Negaunee Township, and Sonya Ryan is a producer and director for WNMU-TV 13 in Marquette, known on-air as Sonya Chrisman.

Michael Ryan was driving a 1983 Honda motorcycle north on U.S. 41 near Town Hall Road when the accident occurred. Sonya Ryan was a passenger on the motorcycle, police said.

A 1997 Chevrolet pickup driven by Patricia Johnson, 73, of Skandia, was traveling east on Town Hall Road and was crossing U.S. 41 at the time of the collision, police said. The investigation into the crash is continuing today.

Michael Ryan suffered a head injury in the crash and was taken to MGH by Rampart EMS of Delta County, police said. A Rampart ambulance was returning to Escanaba after transferring a patient to MGH and happened across the crash scene, police said. He was listed in critical condition this morning, hospital officials said.

Sonya Ryan was taken to MGH by Mediride EMS with injuries to her hand and leg, police said. Hospital officials said she was treated for the injuries and released. Johnson sought her own treatment for minor injuries.

Both motorcyclists were wearing helmets at the time of the crash. Johnson was not wearing a seat belt, police said. No tickets were issued, but the investigation continues.

Also assisting at the scene were the Skandia Township Fire Department and First Responders.

Quote:

What kills me is that my tax dollars are going to pay his pension. Reason enough to move out of Michigan.

Woah. Harsh. Greg's a nice guy. Grumpy, sure, but I'd be pissed too if there was a party of 18-21 year-olds next door every single day. We were loud, dude.

Brian

PEN Alumni:: Dave Glavin is...
Was just told by the man himself that Dave "Diggity Diggity Diggity Diggity Dogg" Glavin will be getting married Saturday, September 13 in Green Bay. I told him I was a bit disappointed by the location because he lives in Arkansas now and I wanted to go to a real shotgun wedding. Oh well...

This does mean we'll probably use it as a PEN get together for us old timers. I'll be there and I'll probably drag Katie and Igor to it as well. Circle the date on your calendars and hope some of you guys that know Dave can make it. I'll pass along more info as I get it.

PEN Alumni:: Oh Goodness
The corner inserts are updated, but graphics like the name supers and weather graphics (some of which I was just screwing around with a few years ago and for some unknown reason they ended up using them when they weren't meant to be) could use some updating. I don't know if we still have those 5 1/4" disks for the old Chyron machine. Remember that thing? Oh man, was that horrible. I remember crashing that thing three times before one show, and it seemed like half the time our shows wouldn't have graphics because it would crash.

Pete, why don't you go ahead and tape your segment for the reunion show in front of a green screen and we'll magically edit someone sitting across from you or something. Or we'll just edit your whole segment "out of context" like a Stephen Colbert "Better Know A District" segment (make sure there's a clock on the wall behind you so it can look really bad!)

We might be able to route down a live feed through A/V. Actually, a couple of times over the past few months we've been doing live interactive productions with classrooms around the country. They had a lady come in talking about sled dog racing with classrooms in Michigan and Texas because, you know, it's a popular winter sport down in Texas? But the kids were able to ask questions right back to her. If not, well, just send us a cardboard cutout of yourself, Pete.

You probably could do a false window with a new set. During fundraiser, they setup a screen behind the talent desk and use a projector hooked up to the Preview or Aux Bus (?? - one of those things) to put up different graphics and video behind the talent. You could put the outdoor cam up on it.
